The Purple mattress has gained its reputation through vast marketing efforts and it’s very eye catching purple materials including a unique polymer grid top layer. This grid is a different feel that allows the Purple to have a mattress that doesn’t feel like the majority of all foam beds. This grid is intended for relieving pressure and staying cool with its open patchwork like spaces. This mattresses has sparked much curiosity and is usually loved or not by those who try it.
We are putting these mattresses head to head in our Purple vs Tomorrow mattress comparison. Looking at the similarities and differences and giving our honest feedback. Read on to find out how we felt about each of these brands as well as see which one will be a better fit for you.
Purple vs Tomorrow: Delivery & Off Gassing
There isn’t too much difference in the delivery portion of this category for the Tomorrow and Purple mattresses. Both are made in the USA, compressed, put into a compact box and shipped right to your door. The biggest similarity may be the weight of each of these mattresses. Each of these will come in a portable box/bag but both weigh over a 100 lbs and will definitely need two people to maneuver them and get them to where they need to go. The biggest difference we noticed with delivery of each mattress is how long it took to get the mattress. The Tomorrow mattress showed up within a few days, while the Purple mattress took over three weeks to get.

We noticed that the off gassing and fumes of the Tomorrow was very minimal, especially for a bed in a box mattress. The Purple did to have a few more noxious fumes trapped and lingered for several days. When comparing the off gassing for these two mattresses we would definitely favor towards Tomorrow Sleep. Another thing to note with both of these mattresses is that they may take a few hours to fully expand after being in their boxes. It is a good idea to let them expand and breathe for a few hours, at a minimum, before sleeping on them to make sure you get a true feel as well as no lingering fumes.

Purple vs Tomorrow: Comfort & Materials
The Purple & Tomorrow Sleep mattresses are going to vary in feel and comfort and this aspect is highly subjective to each sleeper. However, when comparing these beds to each other there will be a few ways of objectively approach how comfortable they may be.
First off the Purple mattress has one comfort option, a universal feel that will be around a 5.5 to 6 on a firmness scale of 1 through 10, 1 being the softest and 10 being firmest. This medium-firm feel is just a touch softer than the typical medium-firm feel but should be ideal for the majority of sleepers. This feel offers the right amount of support as well as just enough softness & cushion for all sleeping positions.
The Tomorrow Sleep mattress has two comfort options to choose from, medium-soft and medium-firm. The medium-soft choice is around a 4 on the firmness scale, while the medium–firm comes in around a 6.5. These choices fall right in line with the popular medium-firm feel which is best for stomach and back sleepers and even side sleepers too. They also offer the softer option which is great for side and back sleepers. Having the ability to choose which firmness option is best for you does give an advantage to Tomorrow by allowing more choices to the buyer.

Tomorrow Sleep Materials
The Tomorrow mattress is a 10″ thick mattress with 4 or 5 layers of foam and coils. The materials vary slightly depending on if you opt for between the medium-soft or the medium-firm. However, the top layer of both will be 1″ of pressure relieving memory foam. This layer of memory foam is supportive and adaptive to every point of your body and focuses on relieving pressure from head to toe. Under this layer is either a 2″ layer of Bounce foam OR a 2″ layer of Airy Memory foam over the Bounce foam. This provides a responsive layer that creates a bit of spring for easy moving as well as good heat dissipation.
Under this is the 6″ coil layer that provides a solid core and plenty of support. This durable and sturdy layer is surrounded by a ventilated foam encasement that not only helps keep the mattress durable and usable from edge to edge, but also allows heat to dissipate. The very bottom of this mattress is 1″ of dense base foam that provides a solid surface for the coils and comfort foams to sit on.
All the layers work together to provide an ideally pressure relieving as well as adaptable comfort that moves with you but also lets you sink in just enough all while providing good solid support for proper spinal alignment. Not to mention this brand also has other products designed to work in sync with the mattress to create and ideal sleeping experience from their pillows, to their comforter to even a sleep tracker that is easy to use and helps you find your best sleeping rhythm.

The Purple mattress is a little less than 10″ mattress that uses 3 layers of foam and polymer. The top layer is going to be 2″ of a hyper-elastic polymer formed into a grid. This layer provides pressure relief as well as optimal air flow. This is followed by 3.5″ of transition foam. These comfort layers sit on a 4″ base foam. During our time sleeping on the Purple mattress we found that the materials and comfort level would probably work well for many people, but the unique feel of the grid texture on the top layer may be difficult to adjust to for some.
As far as our personal opinion on the comfort of each of these mattresses we both felt more support and a smoother top layer sleeping on the Tomorrow Sleep mattress. It also had a very responsive yet hugging feel that worked well for all sleeping positions. The Purple mattress does do a nice job of relieving pressure but felt a little lacking in support, especially if you are a stomach sleeper. The grid is unique and adds a quality unlike many beds we’ve tried, but it also was borderline distracting.
As stated earlier comfort and firmness preference will be subjective, however, the materials and feel of the materials of a mattress can be a good place to start when your are objectively deciding which may be more comfortable initially as well as after several years of sleeping.

Purple vs Tomorrow: Motion Transfer
One of these mattresses is a hybrid while the other uses a very reactive polymer. Both mattresses will have a bit more response to movement than a memory foam mattress. However, the materials in the Tomorrow Sleep mattress do a better job of minimizing this. Not only do they wrap each coil to reduce to almost eliminate movement, but there are also several dense layers of foam, specifically memory foam on top, that will isolate motion very well.
Purple’s top layer is a very responsive polymer that will move more than memory foam. It won’t be anything overly noticeable or cause a ton of vibrations, but when comparing these mattresses side by side the Tomorrow has less motion transfer than the Purple mattress.
Purple vs Tomorrow: Sleeping Cool
Sleeping cool for both of these mattresses is a key focus. Both do a good job of eliminating excess heat and utilizing their materials in such a way to counteract overheating. The Tomorrow mattress does a great job for sleeping cool. The coil system of this mattress allows for plenty of heat to dissipate and air to easily flow between the coils. It also incorporates several cooling properties in the rest of the design too. Including thermic phase changing material added to the top layer of memory foam, more responsive layers beneath the memory foam and even ventilated foam around the edges to really let heat escape. It even has a breathable cover that won’t build up heat too. The attention to the details of sleeping cool do not go unnoticed in the Tomorrow Sleep hybrid mattress.
The top layer of the Purple mattress is the unique polymer grid, we have mentioned numerous times already. Two of the best features about that grid is its ability to relieve pressure as well as dissipate heat. This grid has about 1.5″ to 2″ of open space that allows for plenty of heat to escape and not be held against your body. This makes for this mattress to not only feel different but work well if you are a warm sleeper too.

Purple vs Tomorrow: Edge Support
Edge support may or may not be something that is a big concern to you. However, if it is than paying attention to how well constructed and durable the materials are will play a roll. Edge support is important if you either sit on the edge form time to time or if it is important for you to use the full edge to edge sleeping surface of your mattress. Making sure that even the edges are solid and hold up will make a difference in how comfortable it is as well as how it performs for you.
The Tomorrow mattress performs very well for utilizing the edge while sleeping and can be slept on from edge to edge. The foam encasement around the perimeter makes it not only great for sleeping but also more supportive when sitting too. The Purple bed has a little less support around the perimeter. While sleeping you don’t want to get too close to the edge or you may feel a “rolling out of the bed” type feel. It also does not have much support for sitting for any period of time.
Purple vs Tomorrow: Value
Notice that don’t use the term price, but instead value, because value and price are not the same thing. Value is going to be what you are getting for what the price is. Sometimes a price may seem like a good number but if you aren’t getting the best product for that price than the value isn’t that great. This is especially true for mattresses. There are several brands that will fall around the same price, but you really have to understand what you are paying for if you want a good value.
The Tomorrow Sleep hybrid mattress is great value. A queen size is priced at $990 and includes free shipping, 100 night sleep trial and a 10 year warranty. All of this also comes with the Sealy Simmons stamp of approval and years of quality and innovation. This mattress is comfortable, sleeps cool and uses some great materials. To top it off we are able to exclusively also offer an additional savings of $100 with our coupon code: OSG100 to make the Tomorrow mattress $865.

The Purple mattress is $999 for a queen size and does include the shipping price. This mattress also includes a 100 night sleep trial and a 10 year warranty. This mattress may be right up your ally, and if that is the case, great. It is a 9.5″ thick mattress with a unique polymer grid that may be great if you like a different feel that relieves pressure and stays cool. It has a very beefed up marketing campaign that doesn’t pay for itself, so just realize that when buying any mattress that is highly advertised that there is a portion of that equated into the price you are paying.

Purple vs Tomorrow Sleep Summary
We can say from both an objective as well as subjective standpoint that both the Tomorrow Sleep mattress and Purple mattress perform fine for their designated styles of online bed in a box mattresses. However, side by side the Tomorrow Sleep mattress goes above and beyond in several categories, if not all, that the Purple fell a little short in.
*At the end of the day we enjoyed sleeping on the Tomorrow more than the Purple mattress.
