Puffy vs Nolah: Delivery & Off Gassing:

nolah mattress reviewThe differences in the delivery, off gassing and overall unboxing process are about a horse a piece. Each of these natural mattresses are delivered for free a few days after order and typically through Fed-Ex or UPS. Both Nolah and Puffy are made in the USA, compressed, put into a compact box and arrive easily at your door.

Neither one of these bed in a boxes will have much many noxious odors or fumes, a great benefit of natural mattresses like these where you can also get a sleep trial period to see which ones work best for your sleeping experience. Regardless though you do want to let either air out for a few hours after opening.

Another thing to note with both mattresses is that they will take a few hours to fully expand after being packaged. Definitely let them expand and breathe for about 3 to 4 hours, at a minimum, before sleeping. This not only ensures a nice feeling bed but one free of any lingering smells too.

Looking at comfort from an objective standpoint the best way to start is the overall firmness of the mattress. Each bed can range form soft to firm and everything in between. We usually compare each feel on a scale form 1 to 10 with 1 being soft and 10 firm. As far as these two beds go we found that they did vary quite a bit for firmness.

Puffy vs Nolah – Comfort:

Even though both of these mattresses are offered in a universal feel, that feel is quite different between the two. The Puffy will be around a 7 to 7.5 on a firmness scale. This being a bit firmer than the ideal sweet spot that works for almost every sleeper, making the Puffy a firm mattress. The Nolah on the other hand was right around a 5 to 5.5 with borders on the sweet spot at around a 6.

This makes both of these mattresses more ideal for certain sleepers. Puffy is definitely a bit too much of a firm mattress for the prominent side sleeper. However, back sleepers and stomach sleepers who like a dense memory foam feel will appreciate the firmness and feel of this bed. In short, we would not recommend this as a mattress for side sleepers, however, it will do quite well as a mattress for stomach sleepers and people who sleep on their backs.

Nolah is going to be much more appealing for side sleepers and back sleepers who like a little more give. It will provide good pressure relief for the shoulder and hip while on your side as well as for your lumbar and neck on your back. This mattress is great for anyone who want an all foam mattress that is contouring but still just responsive enough too. our mattress guide

Puffy Materials:

The Puffy mattress is a 10″ thick mattress with 3 layers of foam. The top layer is made of the Cooling Cloud Foam. This layer of memory foam is supportive and adaptive to every point of your body. They specially designed their foam to stay much cooler than other memory foams.

The second layer is made from their Climate Control Foam. This layer really focuses on relieving pressure from head to toe. This allowed for a nice thick layer of conforming comfort that still allows for ample support and just the right amount of response. This is also a secondary cooling affect to draw heat away from the body.

The base layer is a dense base foam that incorporate Insta-Firm technology that makes for a more responsive as well as more supportive base foam. These three layers work together to provide just the right balance for a quality sleeping surface.

Puffy vs Nolah: Motion Transfer:

Both of these mattresses are all foam mattresses and that alone will make for minimal motion transfer. Each of these mattresses are 10″ of all foam that makes for little vibrations from movement. The Puffy mattress does have 3″ of memory foam on top that will respond quicker to reduce movement and eliminate it before it travels to your partner. The Nolah mattress does have 2″ of Nolah Air Foam, similar to memory foam, on top that will respond quicker to reducing movement and eliminate it before it travels to your partner.  When comparing these mattresses side by side both perform fairly equally for isolating motion.

Puffy vs Nolah: Sleeping Cool:

casper vs puffy mattress comparisonAs you already know, these are both all foam mattresses. Anytime you have all foam mattresses retaining heat may be more likely than on a mattress that utilizes a coil system. However, the Puffy and Nolah pays close attention to this factor. They both incorporate materials from top to bottom that help reduce heat retention.

The Puffy mattress incorporates cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The top layer of memory foam layer is a patent pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. It’s also infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than standard foam mattresses. The middle helps draw heat away from the body. While the base foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress and keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to aid in keeping cool. All of this allows for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.

nolah mattressThe Nolah has a top layer of cooling Nolah air foam. This is a proprietary foam that is specially made without viscoelastic. By eliminating this chemical you also eliminate the heat sensitivity associated with traditional memory foam. This helps the bed stay temperature neutral as well as won’t react to your body heat and conform around you either. The Nolah mattress also uses a layer of Avena foam that is more responsive. This will help you move easier and not get stuck. The base foam is dense and supportive to create a solid base that won’t allow you to sink into the mattress. All of this allows for the mattress to maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.

Both the Puffy and Nolah mattresses do a good job of maintaining a cooler feel than many all foam mattresses on the market. The Nolah uses slightly more responsive materials for easier moving. However, the Puffy is a little firmer and won’t let you sink in quite as much.

Puffy vs Nolah: Edge Support:

puffy mattress reviewEdge support may or may not be something that is a big concern to you. However, if it is than paying attention to how well constructed and durable the materials are will play a roll. Edge support is important if you either sit on the edge form time to time or if it is important for you to use the full edge to edge sleeping surface of your mattress. Making sure that even the edges are solid and hold up will make a difference in how comfortable it is as well as how it performs for you.

The Puffy mattress performs fine for utilizing the edge while sleeping. The mattress has fully usable surface and can be slept on from edge to edge. It may lack the desired support if you are sitting on the edge for an extended period of time. The edge support of the Nolah is not much different from the Puffy. You are able to use every inch of the surface for sleeping. But when it comes to sitting, there is a lack of support. Especially for a longer period of time. Both will have a solid, sturdy edge that will feel consistent and usable while sleeping.
