Puffy Lux – Overview:
This 12-inch thick mattress is the upgraded version of an original all-foam mattress. The Puffy Lux includes a third layer of materials to increase the plush feel. This is in addition to the same Cooling Cloud Foam and Firm Core Support Foam in the original Puffy mattress. The new memory foam between them deepens the comfort for increased contouring and a softer comfort.
This creates and ideal feel for every sleeping position and accommodates most body shapes and weights. While the price is affordable it is higher than some competitors. Can you find the same benefits at a lower price, or will you get what you pay for? Continue reading to find out.

Puffy Lux – Delivery and Off-Gassing:
You get free shipping with every Puffy Lux purchase. It should arrive at your door within 2-5 days after you place your order and will arrive through Fed-Ex. The bed-in-a-box weighs around 90 pounds, so having an extra set of hands for setup will be beneficial. Once your happy with the location of the mattress, remove it from the box and unroll it. Taking your time, carefully remove the wrapping and watch your new mattress come to life. It will expand within a few moments and continue to firm up over the next day or two.
You might notice a small amount of odor during this process. Since the Puffy Lux is made in the USA with high-quality materials, this off-gassing experience should be minimal. Any smells you may notice will be nontoxic as Puffy Lux is made from Certi-PUR certified foams. Ensure your mattress is properly ventilated and avoid the area if you find that the off-gassing process bothers you. After this time, you will be able to enjoy the true feel of the Puffy Lux. Alexander Signature – Delivery and Off-Gassing:
Shipping is included with every Alexander Signature purchase. We noticed that the package is very compact for a bed-in-a-box. The mattress weighs around 70 pounds, so ask a friend for help with setting it up. The total process should only take a few moments. Once in place, simply unroll it and carefully remove the wrapper. As the Alexander Signature expands and firms up, you will notice some odors from off-gassing. These should be minimal because this mattress is made in the USA. If you’re sensitive to smells, avoid the area for a few hours. Allowing your new mattress to breathe for up to 12 hours is a good idea.

Puffy Lux – Comfort:
If you’ve tried the original Puffy, you’ll notice the biggest difference between it and the Puffy Lux in the comfort. Because this upgraded design measures two inches thicker with its additional layer, you’ll get comfort in all sleeping positions. The Puffy Lux has a medium feel that leans just slightly to the firmer end of the scale. It rates 5.5-7 on the firmness scale where 1 is softest and 10 is firmest. This allows for comfort in all positions.
Side sleepers will have pressure relief with sinking at the hip and shoulder. The neck and shoulders will be cradled and the lumbar will be supported while sleeping on your back. Stomach sleepers will have adequate support to prevent the back from bowing. The three layers of foam work together to provide deep comfort for all shapes and sizes. Consistency is felt no matter the position, both for couples and larger sleepers as well.
Alexander Signature – Comfort:
The Alexander Signature comes in two different comfort levels to address the varying needs of different sleepers. You can choose between medium and luxury firm. Both options will give you awesome support and adequate pressure relief for a balanced feel. The medium option rates 4.5-5.5 on a firmness scale where 1 is softest and 10 is firmest. It is softer, providing even cushion and support that is ideal for all sleeping positions.
The luxury firm option rates 6.5-7.5 on the firmness scale. This is probably too firm for the comfort of side sleepers, but back and stomach sleepers will enjoy the support. The comfort layers still provide a contouring softness for a cradled feel. This version will also be more appealing to a heavier person who enjoys more support.
Puffy Lux – Materials and Construction:
Adding to the great design in the original Puffy, the Puffy Lux includes added Plush Cloud foam for deeper comfort. This 12-inch thick mattress is made from a total of three layers of foam to target all your needs.
The top of the Puffy Lux mattress is comprised of a 3-inch thick Cooling Cloud™ memory foam. This material uses convection and conduction technology to draw heat away from your body. Airflow increases by 8 times more than standard all-foam mattresses with the gel infusion.
The next layer of the Puffy Lux is the new Plush Cloud comfort foam. This 2-inch thick layer deepens the contouring comfort of this mattress. This gives you pressure pain relief and a soft cushioned feel.
The bottom of the Puffy Lux is a layer of 7-inch thick Firm Core Support foam. This gives the mattress the bulk of its strength and density for durability and support. It has 99 percent better responsiveness and 4 times the support of standard foams. The cover of the Puffy Lux is soft and cool to the touch. It even features a cloud design.
Alexander Signature – Materials and Construction:
The Alexander Signature mattress is made from four different foams and a plush quilted cover. Together, these materials measure over 12 inches thick. The individual thickness of each layer will differ depending on the comfort feel that you select. The top layer of the Alexander hybrid is made from a 4-pound density Gel Foam Memory Foam. It measures 2.5 inches thick in the Medium option and 1 inch thick in the Luxury Firm option.
Next is a 4-pound density Visco Memory Foam. It measures 1.5 inches thick in the Medium option and 2 inches thick in the Luxury Firm option. After this in the Medium option is the 2-inch thick, 1.8-pound density SmartFlow Foam. In the Luxury Firm option, you will get a 2-inch thick, 1.8-pound density Firm SmartFlow Air Flow Foam. Finally, in both options the 1.8-pound density Solid Edge Support Base Foam measure 7 inches thick.
Both versions of the Alexander Signature mattress utilize a Quilted Cover Cool Stretch Fabric that adds to the overall measurement. It is a thermic phase changing cooling fabric that is made from a blend of rayon and polyester. This breathable material is soft and cool to the touch. The components all work together harmoniously for an ideal feel in comfort with cooling properties and increased edge support.

Puffy Lux vs Alexander Signature – Motion Transfer:
If you’re looking for a night of uninterrupted sleep, an all-foam mattress is usually the best choice. Since the Puffy Lux is 12 inches thick and made with only foam materials, you should have an undisturbed experience. The layer of memory foam on top will quickly absorb the vibrations from movement.
Under this is a layer of plush foam that deadens motion in the location where it originates. Your partner shouldn’t feel any movement when you get in and out of bed. The thick dense base foam gives you plenty of support, while the top layers cocoon you in comfort. This makes motion transfer practically unnoticeable.
You want your mattress to provide the best of both worlds: responsiveness and no motions transfer. The Alexander Signature has materials that accomplish both. The responsive foams used will allow for changing positions with ease. The dense base foam paired with memory foams and a quilted cover isolate motion transfer.
Light sleepers will experience very little disturbances while using this mattress. Any movements created will be quickly absorbed before making their way across the bed. This makes the Alexander Hybrid a great choice for couples.
Puffy Lux vs Alexander Signature – Sleeping Cool:
The Puffy Lux is an all-foam mattress. While these designs tend to retain heat more readily than others, cooling properties are added to combat this known issue. The patented Cooling Cloud Foam utilizes convection and conduction technology to increase heat dispersion.
Airflow is 8 times better than with standard memory foams. The gel infusion pulls heat away from the body and evenly distributes it across the surface of the mattress. Strengthening your support and cooling factors, the Firm Core Support foam prevents excessive sinking. This helps you sleep “on top” of the mattress rather than “in the mattress”. The cover of the Puffy Lux breathable, remaining soft and cool to the touch.
From the first touch, the Alexander Hybrid aims at providing a cool sleeping experience. It utilizes a thermic phase changing cooling fabric to reduce heat retention at the surface. This breathable material sits atop a gel-infused foam that pulls heat away from the body to evenly distribute it throughout.
This should keep you sleeping cool throughout the night, even if you are generally a warmer sleeper. Increasing the provisions made to keep you cool, the dense base foam keeps you from sinking too far. This prevents warm air from becoming trapped around your body. Overall, our experience with the Alexander Signature was temperature-neutral.

Puffy Lux vs Alexander Signature – Edge Support:
To find the true quality and comfort of a mattress, one should look to the edge support. This factor can be the difference between having the space to spread out or ending up on the floor. With the Puffy Lux, you must consider that it is an all-foam design.
This kind of mattress generally doesn’t provide the best in edge support, but quality brands have uniformity and longevity. Your Puffy Lux will give you the same feel when sleeping in the middle or along the edges. You shouldn’t feel as though you’ll roll out at any time. The dense foams have created a supportive perimeter. This is even true in sitting at the sides of the mattress for short periods.
All-foam mattresses don’t usually live up to the performance levels of traditional innerspring mattresses. Luckily, the Alexander Signature addressed this issue by using their Solid Edge Support Base Foam to create a firm quality. You will feel a stable sleeping surface across most of this mattress. This gives you more usability if you share your bed with a partner or pet.
One thing to remember is that the top of the mattress is crowned, or slightly rounded along the edge. Sleeping right at the very edge could be uncomfortable for this reason. When sitting at the perimeter of the Alexander Signature, you might notice some sinking. However, this feeling is minimal and shouldn’t seem like a sliding board as with other brands.

Puffy Lux vs Alexander Signature – Our Pick!
The one thing that stands out the most between these two mattresses is the pricing. You can order the Alexander Signature in a queen size for as low as $1,099. In comparison, a queen-sized Puffy Lux costs $1,520 after incorporating current discounts. If you are on a tighter budget, the Alexander Signature still offers cooled comfort with two different firmness level options.
If you want to have an overall better quality in your mattress, select the Puffy Lux. While it costs more, this mattress gives you better cooling and edge support qualities. The memory foams used in its design are also denser, meaning you get longer durability. Our opinion is that the Puffy Lux is better, but the Alexander Hybrid is still a quality choice.
