Now they have an amazing following as well as a growing brand that has expanded and thrived. Tuft and Needle Materials & Construction:
The Tuft and Needle mattress is a total of 10 inches thick. It is made up of two layers to make a universal medium-firm feel. The top layer is 3 inches of the proprietary T&N Adaptive Foam. This foam is meant to be an ideal combination of comfort and support.
This layer is balanced to provide a feel that is pressure relieving but also responsive enough to let you move freely. This foam gives you some of the benefits of memory foam without the negatives, like feeling stuck or retaining heat. To go even further this layer is infused with Charcoal which helps regulate body temperature.
Under the top comfort layer follows 7 inches of Dense Base Foam. This sturdy foundational foam provides plenty of support and a solid feel. This layer offers more than plenty of base foam to amplify the firm aspect of the medium-firm feel.
All of this is covered in a very breathable, soft and light weight knit polyester and polyamide cover. This simple yet effective layer allows air to flow and never holds or traps heat. Making this simple yet solid design work well for many sleepers.
Tuft and Needle Mattress Benefits:
When it comes to the benefits of this cost conscious mattress you will be pleasantly surprised. Though many would think that a lower price point means they would have to compromise on quality and feel, that isn’t the case with the T&N mattress. Below we will go through how you can expect the Tuft and Needle mattress to perform in all the areas that are important to consider for great sleep.
When it comes to comfort the two layers of the Tuft & Needle mattress will give you a universal medium-firm feel. This feel may border on being just a bit too firm for some side sleepers, especially with a lack of transition layer needed for deep comfort. However, the firmness of this mattress should appeal to both back and stomach sleepers.
The thicker than average base foam ensures a solid feel and plenty of support. While the top comfort layer is still thick enough to provide pressure relief and just enough sink. This will let back sleepers sink in just enough to have pressure points alleviated, but not so far that you don’t have proper sleeping posture. It also is plenty firm to keep your back from bowing while sleeping on your stomach.
If you are a heavier sleeper you many initially like the feel of this mattress. However, the lack of a transition layer for deep comfort may have you feeling like you are sleeping right on the base foam. Giving you less pressure relief than needed. As well as a less than ideal comfort.
With most all foam mattresses motion transfer is kept to a minimum. With the Tuft and Needle being a bit on the firmer side with less layers of comfort foam you do experience a little more vibration though. It isn’t anything overly noticeable, but if you are a lighter sleeper or sleep with a partner that has a different schedule this is something to consider.
Not only is this mattress a bit firmer, but the top layer of T&N Adaptive Foam does have a bit of responsiveness to it as well. Paired with a dense base foam makes for less ideal conditions when isolating motion.
One trade off you do get with an all foam mattress that is a little on the firmer side is sleeping cooler. When you sink into the bed less it makes for less heat retention and more surface of your body that has abundant airflow around it. The fact that these layers are also poly foam and not heat retaining memory foam also is beneficial.
And on top of that, the careful addition of Graphite infused into the top layer as well as cooling gel ensures heat is pulled away from the body. Making the Tuft and Needle and all foam mattress that doesn’t sleep too hot. Lastly, the breathable cover is plenty soft but also doesn’t trap heat, to keep things even more temperature neutral.
Though the foam layers of the Tuft and Needle mattress make it a true medium-firm feel the perimeter may lack the reinforcement needed to fully utilize the mattress. The edges of the T&N may have you feeling like you can’t use the full sleeping surface.
Keeping you a few inches in from the edge in order to have adequate and proper support. The lack of consistency not only effects the performance of the mattress while sleeping but also if you plan on using it for sitting.
Any mattresses primary purpose is for sleep, but we all occasionally use our mattress for sitting too. The sides and edge of a bed that can’t support you make every day tasks less ideal. Even simple things like putting on your socks or getting in and out of bed.
The Tuft and Needle isn’t going to offer an over abundance of edge support and it is most notable while sitting on the edge. The feeling of almost sliding out is present on this mattress. Making the overall edge support of this mattress somewhat typical for an all foam bed, with even a little less support, especially over time.
