Below we have our comprehensive review for the Cocoon Classic by Sealy mattress. We will go through how it performs for off gassing, comfort, motion transfer, sleeping cool, edge support, value, material, trial and warranty.
Delivery & Off Gassing:
The very first thing we needed to do with our new Cocoon mattress is take it out of the box and get it set up. It should show up right at your door and in a fairly compact box, for a mattress anyway. Getting it to where it needs to go may take two sets of hands. It is about 60 lbs and a little awkward to maneuver if you’re on your own. Once you get it to where you’ll be sleeping it should only take a few minutes to get it out of the box and take it out of the plastic and come to life.
During the unboxing process you will notice a bit of off gassing but it should be very minimal. With most boxed mattresses there will be a little bit of smell before it is allowed to unroll and take shape. It should be fine within a few hours but if you are more sensitive to certain smells letting it breath up to 12 hours would probably be a good idea.
Watch our video below to see just how easy unboxing the Cocoon Classic by Sealy is!
When setting up your new mattress it will need a foundation that provides a flat, even surface that will support the weight of the mattress as well as the sleepers. It also will need to be the right height for you as well as be aesthetically appealing. Sealy also offers a Cocoon Foundation that matches and works with this bed. Otherwise this mattress would work great on any box spring with or without a frame, an adjustable base, a platform bed or slatted bed.
Cocoon Classic – Comfort:
The Cocoon Classic by Sealy mattress has a few different options to create the best comfort for you. This mattress has a soft as well as firm option to choose from. They opted for these two options to appeal to the vast majority of preferred feels. The soft will come in around a 5 on a firmness scale. With 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. The firm will come in around a 7.5 to 8 on the firmness scale.
Each will appeal to different individuals depending on what sleeping position you favor, your size as well as your personal preference. Both should have adequate support regardless of the softness level.
The soft feel should work well people who prefer sleeping on their side as well as back. This will allow for your body to be conformed to more. The firm will be better for stomach sleepers, as well as back sleepers who want a more supportive feel. The firm would also be recommended to the larger sleeper as well, since mattresses only get softer with time having more dense foam will only help over time.
Our Cocoon Classic Comfort Experience:
During our time sleeping on the Cocoon we opted to try the soft option. This option definitely proved to be suited for someone who prefers a softer mattress option but still fully supported. It was nice to have the choice, especially if you like a softer mattress since many one option mattresses fall in the medium to medium-firm feel. The Cocoon had adequate support for both of us, however for stomach sleeping or if you are larger the firm option would be a better choice.
Cocoon Classic – Motion Transfer:
Like most all foam mattresses this mattress should have very little vibrations caused by movement. The foams should absorb the majority of vibrations and makes for very minimal to no motion transfer to be felt. We found the motion transfer of the Cocoon to be minimal and didn’t have any issues with disturbance through vibrations. This mattress would be great for anyone who shares a bed because of this, there will be little disturbance when getting in and out of bed.
Cocoon Classic – Sleeping Cool:
The Cocoon Classic mattress doesn’t have any added properties to help with sleeping cool. The only real option that would make a difference is choosing the firmer mattress over the soft. A firm mattress will help you sleep “on-the-bed”. Where as a soft mattress will feel like you are “in-the-bed” which can add to the warmth. The firmer option will help, but if you are a warmer sleeper and are interested in the Cocoon mattress I would check out the Cocoon Chill option.
Cocoon Classic – Edge Support:
The edge support on the Cocoon Chill by Sealy should feel stable for sleeping and create a solid, edge to edge usable sleep surface. Sleeping on this mattress you are able to feel a consistent feel across the majority of the top of the bed. As far as sitting on the edge goes, there is a little less support, and sitting for extended periods wouldn’t be recommended.
Cocoon Classic – Value:
The Cocoon Classic by Sealy is $799 for a queen. This also includes free delivery, a 100 night sleep trial and a 10 year warranty. This mattress is a good value but what makes it an even better value is saving up to $100 just by clicking HERE and using code: OSG100 .
*If you are in need of financing Cocoon by Sealy also offers payments that can be made over 12 months too.
Materials & Construction:
This 10″ mattress is made of 3 layers, at least in the soft option. The top layer is 2″ of memory foam. This layer is the comfort layer that provides pressure relief and a contouring, hugging feel.
The middle layer is a 2″ layer of transition comfort foam. This poly foam helps to create a better transition between the softer top foam and denser base foam.
The bottom layer is 6″ of dense base foam. This layer is the core of the mattress and provides the support and foundation.
All of this is covered in a blend of cotton and polyester that also includes a phase changing material to keep you cooler and wick away moisture. This cover is soft & breathable and is aesthetically very nice too.
Trial Period & Warranty:
The Cocoon Chill by Sealy mattress has a 100 night sleep trial period. This is the online mattress industry average and what is typical offered. This trial period allows for a sufficient amount of time to see if this mattress is a good fit for you and also has a very easy return process if it isn’t.
The Cocoon comes with a 10 year warranty. Like most mattress warranties the 10 year Sealy warranty is prorated to coincide with the natural average wear of the bed over time. This warranty is fairly standard and provides consumers with the confidence that this is a product that the company will stand behind.
