helix packagingBoth ship to your home for free. The mattress will ship to your door from the factory in a compact cardboard box. Once the mattress is out your home it will be safely dropped off without you even having to sign for it. Once arrived you can begin the simple unboxing process. Simply cut the cardboard and pull out your new mattress, it will be wrapped in plastic, but once you remove the plastic the mattress will begin to expand. The expansion process will take between 12 to 24 hours to complete. Afterward, it will take a few nights for the bed to regain its true firmness.

The  mattresses will have little to no off-gassing to them. Once you unpack the mattress any odor you notice will be light if you notice any at all. The mattress will also be free from any chemically harmful smells. If you are sensitive to smells then you will want to give the mattress 12-hours in an open room to air out. If possible you may also want to have a friend to help you move your new mattress in. Mattresses are heavy and can be rather awkward to move completely on your own.

Helix vs Helix Luxe – Motion Transfer:

hand on a sunset bedWhen looking at any mattress it is important to understand how it does when it comes to isolating motion. By using materials that make a bed more sound, especially if sharing, can make soundly sleeping much easier. Having a mattress that uses materials that help minimize motion isolation helps ensure that movements and vibrations are limited from traveling to disturb others sleeping. This is especially necessary if you share a bed with a restless sleeper, have a pet and especially if share a bed with someone who has a different sleep schedule.

Both selections do a great job of keeping traveling motion at bay. Both may have a coil system that adds ease of movement but they do not contribute or add to creating vibrations. The pocketed coils are individually wrapped. This keeps them separate from each other along with encasing them fabric, both features that help keep movement from traveling. Along with this both mattresses have several layers of foam. The Luxe does have an extra layer of memory foam as well as a quilted cover. Giving it even better motion isolation than the original Helix. Though both do a great job when it comes to this benefit. However, the additions to the Helix Luxe do make it a slightly more sound mattress when it comes to really minimizing motion transfer.

Helix vs Helix Luxe – Temperature Regulation:

The two take into consideration cool sleeping. Both mattresses are made with technology in place to keep you from burning up during the night. The biggest difference when it comes to these mattresses and sleeping cool is the ultra cool cover included with the Helix Luxe and the top layers of memory foam.

dog and owner on a helix bedWith the Luxe a cool to the touch cover is included. The cover not only creates better air flow but is made with phase changing material that absorbs and releases heat. This cover comes with every Luxe, giving it yet another added upgrade. However, this cover is available for the original Helix if you choose, but does come with an additional cost.

With both of these mattresses the coil system is great for dissipating any heat build up. Creating plenty of air flow from any trapped heat. The top comfort  layers of foams in the Original and Luxe are a more heat sensitive memory foam. However, the top layer of the Helix Luxe is infused with gel to help off set this property making it very contouring yet not overly warm. Giving the Helix Luxe slightly more focus on sleeping more temperature neutral than the original.

With either, another important aspect to keep in mind if you’re a warmer sleeper is the comfort option you choose as well. The softer a mattress the more you will sink into it. Creating more heat build up. So the firmer the mattress less of your body will sink in and help create more air flow around you. Both mattresses should work well for warmer sleepers, and the option of upgrading the cover of the original makes both very close race when it comes to sleeping cool.

Helix vs Helix Luxe – Edge Support:

side view of a mattressJust like with the cooling aspect of this mattress, Helix has taken plenty of steps to make sure their beds have a proper amount of edge support. Each mattress option is solid and sturdy from every angle making the edge just as consistent as the middle. They have plenty of support thanks to both their foam layers and coil layers. The durable foams are dense and resilient allowing for plenty of comfort while still providing necessary support. Creating a very level and even sleeping surface. While the coil system uses reinforced coils around the perimeter to enhance the consistency and durability of the edges.

Sleeping on both of these mattresses will allow you to really use the full bed. And the firmer options will feel even more solid, especially around the edges. Making for great sleep and a fully usable mattress. As far as sitting goes, even that will be okay, especially if only occasional. Giving both the Helix and Helix Luxe top marks when it comes to edge support.

Helix vs Helix Luxe Value:

dog next to a helix mattress manualIt’s a little hard to choose between the Helix and Helix Luxe since they are made by the same great company. Helix is able to keep their prices competitive. Your purchase price will differ dependent on the style you choose. A queen size original Helix Sunset, Moonlight, Midnight, Dusk, Twilight & Dawn are priced at $995 for a queen. While the Nightfall and Dual firmness options are priced at $1,190. Upgrading the original to the cooling cover will comes at an additional charge. While the Helix Luxe is priced at $1,695 for a queen.

Both will surely delight and you definitely will be able to find the perfect feel with all the choices offered. Making both models a great value!
