Brooklyn Signature vs Ojai – Delivery & Unboxing:

brooklyhn signature vs bear hybridWelcome to the 21st century where the Brooklyn Signature and Ojai mattresses will be delivered straight to your door. The Brooklyn Signature will arrive in a fairly compact box, rolled up, and ready to sleep on after only a few minutes. This mattress is also heavier than most at 100+ lbs. so we recommend having an extra set of hands to help maneuver it. Once you and your help get the mattress where it needs to be, simply unwrap, unroll, and sit back while your mattress magically expands.

The Ojai mattress will be unboxed through a similar method. The difference is that you are given more options for shipping methods. First, you may choose to have your mattress roll packed and shipped free to your door, or you may upgrade to white glove delivery service for $199. For an additional $76 you can even have your old mattress removed.

The white glove delivery service can be helpful, since a queen weighs roughly 89 lbs., but if you choose free shipping, we just recommend having an extra set of hands to assist you. If this mattress has been home delivered, once you get it where it needs to be, the process is the same: unbox, unwrap, and unroll.

Order your conveniently shipped Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress at BrooklynBedding.com. Or the Ojai at BrentwoodHome.com.

Brooklyn Signature vs Ojai – Off-Gassing:

cedar mattressLike with most boxed mattresses, there may be some trapped gasses that escape after you unbox your Brooklyn Signature. The odors however should be less than   most and nothing harmful since the Brooklyn Signature is made in the US. You still want to allow some time for off-gassing before use and before putting any sheets on. To speed up this process, opening a window is always recommended.

At the same time, you will want to allow a full day for your mattress to fully expand, so this is the perfect time for off-gassing as well. After 24 hours, your mattress is ideal for use, however keep in mind that the foams will continue to settle over the next few days.

Once again, the Ojai mattress will have minimal off-gassing since it is made in the US with Certi-PUR certified foams. Between the TENCEL, wool cover, and natural latex, there is sure to be some fragrance, but nothing noxious. Brentwood Home is proud to use eco-friendly, non-toxic materials from top to bottom so off-gassing will not be a problem. Your Ojai mattress will be ready for use within a few hours, keeping in mind that it takes a few days for the foams to settle.

Brooklyn Signature Mattress – Materials:

The Brooklyn Signature mattress has 11” and 3 layers of comfort. From top to bottom, first is a 2” layer of 4 lb. TitanFlex foam. This hybrid material takes the responsiveness benefits of latex and the pressure relieving benefits of memory foam for ultimate comfort. This layer is also meant for comfort and cooling while contouring perfectly to the sleeper’s body.

Beneath that is 2” of another 4 lb TitanFlex memory foam. This layer has similar benefits to the top layer, but is denser for even more support and pressure relief. It also provides deep comfort and more contouring and hugging, which makes the mattress adaptable to all shapes and sizes.

Finally there is the 6” layer Ascension Pocketed Coil System with 1,024 individually wrapped coils (in a Queen size). These coils contribute to minimizing motion transfer, but also create perfect support at every point on your body. This layer is the core and foundation of the mattress. It creates long term durability as well as stability for the foams on top. To wrap it all up, the Brooklyn Signature is wrapped in a super soft quilted cotton blend cover.

The cover is sewn into the ¾” thick layer of extra foam to create an added pillow top. This gives you even more plushness and comfort, while the sewn in side handles make it easy for moving. The Brooklyn Signature is a smart, quality mattress that keeps you comfortable.

Ojai Mattress – Materials:

brooklyn signature vs ojaiThe Ojai mattress is 12” thick with 4 layers of comfort. From top to bottom, the first layer is 1.5” thick with 4 lb density Flo Foam. This layer is uniquely sensitive that is both responsive and conforming. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to move across the top, and yet still be ultra pressure relieving.

The next layer is 1.5” thick with 4 lb density Gel Memory Foam. This layer helps evenly distribute your weight and relieves pressure points. It is also necessary for isolating motion to prevent sleep disturbances.

The third layer is 1” thick and made of 4 lb density Natural Dunlop Latex. This layer prevents you from ever feeling “stuck” and is super responsive. It uses naturally aerated latex that breathes easily and dissipates heat, while also being pliable and springy.

Finally, the base layer is the 8” thick coil system. This layer is made up of 1,130 coils (in a Queen size). It is also the core of the mattress and crates the bulk of the support, longevity, and durability of the mattress. The coils also create precise contouring for exact pressure relief along your body. The edge of the mattress has added retention coils for more support, and the lumbar zone uses even more coils for more support.

The finishing touch is the stretch knit TENCEL cover and a layer of wool batting across the top of the mattress. This layer is one of a kind; it is hand tufted, breathable, and extra plush. The New Zealand wool is perfect for natural heat wicking that also helps with air circulation. The Ojai mattress uses superb attention to detail, and we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.

Brooklyn Signature – Comfort:

brooklyn signatureThe Brooklyn Signature creates comfort that seems too good to be true. The combination of foam and solid coil system work together in harmony to create perfect comfort. The foam layers are responsive, while the coil layers are supportive and solid. And if that isn’t enough comfort for you, the Brooklyn Signature comes in three different comfort levels; sort, medium, and firm.

The soft option is best for side sleepers. It will have softer, more plush foams for contouring, and comfort foams to allow your body to sink in more. You will still be supported, but feel more “in” the bed. The soft option is around a 4 on a 1 to 10 firmness scale.

Next is the medium option. This is of course, the most popular option, especially for couples or people who sleep in various sleeping positions throughout the night. The medium option is adaptable, making it great for side,  ack and stomach sleepers. This option has a more balanced feeling  that still contours, but is still dense too. The medium option is a 6 on a 1to 10 firmness scale.

Finally, the firm option is going to be the most dense. It keeps you sleeping “on” the bed and is ideal for predominant stomach sleepers. Keep in mind that a firmer mattress is also better for heavier persons because the mattress will feel softer, but still more supportive than other options. The firm option is an 8 on a 1 to 10 firmness scale.

Ojai by Brentwood Home – Comfort:

brentwood home mattress reviewThe Ojai mattress is all about balance. It combines the responsiveness of latex with the pressure relieving, cocooning of memory foam. The hybrid Ojai mattress also has 3 layers of supportive adaptive foams to work in harmony. The heavy duty coil system at the foundation of the Ojai mattress provides the core support and long term durability. In addition, the smooth TENCEL cover has natural moisture wicking, to regulate your temperature all night long.

The Ojai only has one comfort option, a universal medium feel that measures a 5.5 on 1 to 10 firmness scale. This medium mattress is ideal for any sleeping position, but especially preferred by back and side sleepers. The Ojai is supportive, yet just cushioned enough to let your hip and shoulder sink in.

It also has a sleeping surface that cradles your back and lumbar. At the same time, it is great for stomach sleepers as well because the top layers of foam plus the supportive coils, prevent your back from bowing. The Ojai mattress is truly your one shop mattress that is universally comfortable for universally every night.

Brooklyn Signature vs Ojai – Motion Transfer:

purple vs brooklyn signatureMotion transfer is a key component in how well you sleep throughout the night. Whether you’re sharing your bed with your partner, baby, or dog, you don’t want to be woken up by how many rimes they move. Although some materials may seem naturally buoyant, the Brooklyn Signature masters motion isolation. Coil systems sound naturally buoyant, but individually wrapped in fabric minimizes motion transfer immensely.

The patented TitanFlex foam is more responsive, but also pressure relieving and dense, which makes motion transfer minimal. The best part is that the Brooklyn Signature mattress is still easy to move on, with minimal partner disturbances. The second layer of TitanFlex foam was also specifically added for motion isolation. This layer is the perfect barrier and the mattress performs great for minimizing movement.

brentwood home mattress reviewThe Ojai hybrid mattress is also ideal for motion isolation. The thick plushness of the mattress overall stops movement in its tracks. If there are any vibrations felt within the mattress, it won’t be enough to disturb you or your partner’s sleep. The coil system alone, does a significant part of the job isolating motion. Each individually wrapped coil contributes to eliminating motion transfer. Plus the Flo Foam and dense memory foam absorb the vibrations quickly and efficiently. You can trust in this coil system to eliminate  motion transfer immediately.

Brooklyn Signature vs Ojai – Sleeping Cool:

brooklyn signatureAlthough both mattresses are a hybrid, when you think of the foam tops, you think heat. Rest assured however, the Brooklyn Signature will still have you sleeping cool. First, it uses an alternative latex that is aerated and has minimal heat absorption. Since these layers are a bit more responsive, you won’t feel stuck, and therefore won’t sink into the bed to create heat.

The coil system is also key to cooling off a mattress. Having a place for heat to escape through the coils makes a huge difference. If you are a typically warmer sleeper! We recommend choosing the medium or firm option because firmer mattresses tend to sleep cooler as well. There are endless reasons why the Brooklyn Signature is great for sleeping cool, but the only one that matters is that you will be cool.

The Ojai is yet another great option for a mattress that sleeps cool. Each layer is designed with unique qualities to help you sleep cool. The main factor of course is the Pocketed coil system. Having a coil foundation creates a space for heat to escape, which keeps your mattress sleeping cool.  All foams used within the mattress are naturally breathable, and they work together for alleviating heat retention. In addition, being able to move easily is a huge part of sleeping cool. Not feeling stuck means there is less space around your body and the mattress to create heat.

Brooklyn Signature vs Ojai – Edge Support:

brentwood home mattress reviewOne significant upgrade of a foam mattress to a hybrid is edge support. Brooklyn Signature is meant to maximize the amount of sleeping surfaces you can use. No matter where you like to sleep on your mattress- edge, middle, anywhere, the edge support on the Brooklyn Signature has got you covered. The sleeping surface of the Brooklyn Signature is fully usable from edge to edge, with more ascension springs around the perimeter as an added bonus. Most importantly, the edges will not feel broken down when you sit on them. The Brooklyn Signature performs above average for edge support, and it definitely makes a difference.

The secret to Ojai’s edge support is coils. It uses thicker gauge steel around the perimeter for extra edge-support. Plus the thicker, denser memory foams give you a consistent sleeping surface throughout. Not only can you utilize every square inch of the Ojai mattress, but you can also sit on the edge on occasion. Edge support is truly an expression of the mattresses quality, and the Ojai has all the quality and edge support.
