They generally run cooler than pure memory foam mattresses and even have more bounce. This makes it easier for a hybrid to adapt to your movements than most all foam beds. We will be comparing the Bear hybrid vs Luft hybrid in this review to see the pros, cons and differences between these two.
Both of these mattresses have a lot in common, but there are a few key differences to note. Below we go through several key category you need to decide which bed is right for you. Materials And Layer Overview:
Both mattresses are hybrid style beds. This style utilizes a combination of comfort foams with the support of coils systems. The benefits of hybrid mattresses are plentiful. Not only do you get the feel and comfort from multiple foams, you also get the durability and flexible support of a coil system. Melding two fantastic mattress qualities onto one style of bed. Making the hybrid very desirable and the best of two worlds.
Not to mention the other benefits that accompany this style of mattress. Including better heat dissipation and cooling. Great motion isolation for minimal partner disturbance. And typically more sturdy and stable edges providing additional support where needed.
Both the Bear hybrid and Luft hybrid feature a foam and coil combination. However, both use these systems differently s you will see in the materials description below.
Bear Hybrid Materials:
The Bear Hybrid mattress is made with several different layers of foam and a coil system to give you optimized comfort. The mattress is made up of 4 different layers all with varying technologies built in. The mattress is 14.5 inches thick, including a quilted top.
The first layer is the Bear Performance Foam. This 3″ layer is breathable and adaptive to create a comfort layer that is easy to move on and doesn’t get too warm. Under this is the second layer of 2″ of Gel Memory Foam. This layer has an infused cooling gel to help dissipate heat and relieve pressure points too.
The next layers it what makes the Bear a hybrid mattress. The 1300 Plus Coil System, gives the bed plenty of airflow. This 2.4″ thick layer uses micro coils to give the mattress bounce and lets you move on top of the bed more freely. The final layer is the 5″ of Density Support Foam. This layer gives this medium-firm bed its support and foundation. Providing durability and longevity for years to come. As well as a solid surface for the above layers to optimally perform.
The hand-tufted quilt top covers this mattress and adds an additional 2″ of comfort. This layer uses the technology of Celliant. A unique property that helps the body in recovery allowing for a more restorative night of sleep. It also is made to be breathable while keeping the actual mattress clean too. Creating a great sleeping surface that easily adapts to many sleepers.

Luft Hybrid Materials:
The Luft Mattress is made up of 4 layers and creates 14+ inches of foam and thick coil system. To start off, the first layer of foam is 1 inch of Density Graphite infused Open-Cell Memory Foam. This layer helps relieve pressure while properly distributing weight across the mattress. The air graphite gel also helps to keep you cool at night. The second layer is made of 2″ of High Density Transition Foam. This foam helps give the mattress a deep feeling of comfort while mediating the layers.
The third layer is the coil system. This layer is 8 inches of thick zoned Innerspring Coil System. The amount of coils the bed has depends on the size of the mattress in this case. This layer helps a lot with dissipating heat and gives the mattress even more support. The coils also get rid of virtually all motion vibrations and provide support where it’s needed most. They are also zoned for optimal lumbar support and superior edge support.
The last layer is 1″ of Density Support Foam. This helps give the bed it’s medium feel while helping it have lasting durability. All of this is covered in a durable and soft cover with 3″ of quilting. This cover also uses an interesting bit of technology to set itself apart from others. It has both gel-infused quilted foam and Dacron high loft fibers to create inches of added comfort. Making the Luft hybrid a thick and durable bed with amazing materials from top to bottom.

This also makes it the perfect bed for consumers who prefer to sleep more towards the edge. The Luft hits between a 5.5 to a 6.5 on the firmness scale.
The Luft has solid support while using it’s softer foam layers to keep you resting comfortably during the night. You should also know that it does a great job of promoting airflow to keep you cool.
Bear Hybrid vs Luft Hybrid Comfort & Firmness:
Both the Bear Hybrid and Luft Hybrid mattresses meet the needs of all types of sleepers. Both brands focus on having a more universal medium to medium-firm feel. They also make sure to keep their sleepers from burning up during the night using various foam technologies. The Hybrids do a wonderful job of giving much-needed support and pressure relief where it’s needed. These mattresses are made out of wonderful quality materials to softly cradle you to sleep. When it comes to comfort, both will surely please you.
Bear Hybrid vs Luft Hybrid Motion Transfer:
Both the Bear and Luft Hybrid Mattresses do a great job of isolating motion. They both use a combination of foam and coils to absorb any vibrations that happen throughout the night. Both the Bear and Luft mattresses are perfect for consumers that currently share a bed. They can also help with couples who have different sleep schedules or young children that may need attention in the night. Even pets who share the bed won’t disturb you while moving about.
The Bear does feature slightly less motion transfer. This is due to the slightly shorter coil system and abundance of foam under and over the coil system. Making a bit of a sandwich for the coils to minimize any movements. The Luft also has optimized isolating motion with its dense and absorbent foams as well as a coil system that is individually wrapped too. No matter which of these brands you choose, the motion isn’t something you will have to worry about.
Bear Hybrid Temperature Regulation:
The Bear Hybrid also uses quite a few methods in order to keep heat in check. Overall, the Bear Hybrid is made to have a very neutral feeling to it. To do this it uses a breathable top layer of foam to help air flow naturally through the layers. The Performance foam layer also helps as a barrier between you and the warm memory foam layer. The memory foam layer itself is infused with cooling gel, to try and help the other layers disperse any heat that may get trapped inside the mattress.
The coil layer also is a major game changer in this mattress. The coils don’t retain heat like foam, and this layer lets air flow easily through it. All this combined together works to create a neutral feeling mattress even in the hotter months of the year.
Luft Hybrid Temperature Regulation:
The Luft Hybrid mattress uses quite a few different technologies to run cool during the night. While the coil system may mainly be for support, it also helps greatly with air circulation throughout your mattress. The Luft also features a foam layer that is fused with cooling graphite gel. This gel works by helping promote airflow and dissipate heat.
Even the cover of the Luft is made in order to keep you cool while you sleep. The quilted cover is infused with gel to help support a good night’s sleep. The fibers of this mattress also help keep moisture off of you. The coil combined with the other layers will give you a neutral feel while you sleep.
Bear Hybrid vs Luft Hybrid Temperature Regulation:
Both of these mattress run cool despite being partly made of foam. The coil layers help to greatly reduce any heat retention. They also promote a good amount of airflow and don’t absorb heat like the foam layers do. Both companies use cooling gels in their foam layers to help keep a neutral feel throughout the night. Luft even goes a step further by infusing the quilted mattress cover with gel, as well.
Bear Hybrid vs Luft Hybrid Edge Support:
The Bear Hybrid mattress uses its premium layers to give you a consistent feel all over the bed. It’s thick layers help give you the support you need to sleep all the way to the edge of the bed. Not only that, but you will sleep comfortably without any extra sinkage. The Bear Hybrid is a solid mattress and even occasionally sitting on the edge will prove to be fairly sturdy, especially compared to most all foam mattresses.
Like the Bear Hybrid, the Luft Hybrid mattresses has a lot of great layers to help support you. No matter where you lay on your Luft mattress you won’t feel a difference in support levels. The coil system helps with this greatly, and the foams aren’t soft enough to let you slowly slide off the edge of the bed. If you are looking for a bed that has very sturdy edge support the Luft is one of the best we’ve tried This mattress not only makes for a great sleeping space but even sitting on the edge is very solid. Making a mattress that feels durable for the long haul.
One thing to note with both of these beds is the fact that they are so thick. Compared to most 10″ foam mattresses you are getting an additional 4+ inches that will take you that much higher off the ground. This means your feet may be dangling and putting more weight on the edge of the mattress while sitting. So because of this you may feel the edge compress more than you would under a thinner profiled mattress. However, the durability of the edges on both of these hybrids is much more substantial. And can take this additional pressure without compromising the bed.
