Purple calls their new Harmony Pillow “The greatest pillow ever invented.” Now these are some very BIG claims. So we wanted to look into this pillow ourselves and really see whether this pillow truly is the greatest. We will walk you through the Harmony pillows materials, comfort level, how it is constructed, and even how to care for it. All to help you determine whether it is the best pillow for you.
There are three main layers to this pillow. The first is the cover. Purple made their cover out of a moisture-wicking mesh that is light and breathable. They made the mesh out of 88% Polyester, 3% Nylon, 9% Spandex. These materials are not known for their breathability or moisture wicking abilities. However, by turning it into a ventilated mesh and giving it a moisture-wicking treatment, this is how they have made this cover to be better for hot sweaty sleepers.
The next layer is the signature Purple Hex Grid. While many of the Purple products feature a polymer grid of some kind, this one is slightly different. This version of their grid pattern is a softer, more adaptable grid for slight support that brings some pressure relief along as well. Similar to their other products, Purple made this grid out of their trademark Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
The final layer makes up the core of the Harmony Pillow by Purple. This is made out of a ventilated Talalay Latex with Polyester knit cover. The ventilation of this already cool sleeping and breathable latex material, even cooler to sleep on. We love that they used a more natural latex, Talalay. This material is a more natural option that is well ventilated, making it much cooler than other latex or foam products.
This pillow is a great combination of comfort features. Their Purple Hex Grid is great for helping you sleep cool, while also giving you added pressure relief and support simultaneously. Which it can be difficult to get those two in tandem.
You also have the Talalay latex core which provides plenty of cushioning support in the middle of the pillow. This grid is softer than soft of their other grid patterns they have in their mattress. This is because less weight will be applied to the grid with just your head and neck hitting the pillow. So the softer grid provides better comfort and support this way.
This pillow comes in two loft heights. Depending on how you sleep and your size this will effect which option is best. Purple suggest the “Tall” pillow option for back sleepers and larger side sleepers. While they suggest using the Standard for smaller side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Below is a further break down of the size options.
The Purple Harmony pillow only comes in two different sizes, a Standard and a Tall. With these not being in the range of your typical pillow sizes; being standard, Queen and King.
A regular standard sized pillow is 20″x 26″ and a traditional Queen size pillow is 20″ x 30″ and a standard King size pillow is 20″ x 36″ thick. All sizes will come in range of different loft (height) sizes depending on the brand and style. However, the majority of pillows will fall between 4″ to 6″ thick.
While the Purple Harmony “Standard” size pillow is 17″ x 26″ with a 6.5″ loft height. And the Purple Harmony “Tall” pillow comes in 17″ x 28″ with a 7.5″ loft. Though the sizes may seem smaller, the thicker loft height does account for space needed in a pillow case. A queen size pillow case would work best for the Purple Harmony Pillow, however if you use a King sham it will still fit but have a little extra fabric.
This is Purple’s most expensive pillow to date. You are also getting the best of both worlds when it comes to comfort. You’re getting a more traditional shape pillow that features their Purple Hex Grid. Making it their most advanced pillow design to date as well. They truly believe this is “the greatest pillow ever invented” and it surely does reflect in the price.
Every pillow comes with free shipping and a 100 night trial period. So you can be confident knowing you get the comfort you need with this pillow. If you decide during that trial period that it simply isn’t the right one for you, you will also get free return shipping.
To wash your Purple Harmony cover, simply removed from the pillow and wash with cold water. Then lay it flat to dry. We also suggest washing it separately with like colors. For the pillow itself, Purple suggests only spot cleaning as needed. Which means, you cannot throw this pillow in the washer. Which is why it is a bonus that it is naturally hypoallergenic and does not hold onto allergies easily, since you will not be able to wash these allergens off.
Whether or not the Purple Harmony Pillow is “the greatest pillow ever invented” we are not entirely sure just yet. The trouble is that comfort is subjective. What is the best for one person is going to be terrible for the next. We all have to find the right pillow for us. We believe this will be a great pillow for back and side sleepers who like a medium firmness adaptive feeling pillow. While stomach sleeper will likely find this too high for comfort. If you’re looking for a pressure relieving, cool sleeping pillow with that signature purple grid hex feel, then you will probably love this pillow.
