Materials & Design:

Bear set out to design a foam based pillow that could stay comfortably cool throughout the night. To do this they use very specific materials to make sure that it would be hold onto heat. Instead of a memory foam based pillow they used a foam called Loft-X Foam. Similar to memory foam, it conforms to the shape of your head and neck to comfortably cradle your head. However it is more breathable and does not hold onto heat in the way that memory foam tends to. The Loft-X Foam also provides a good amount of support to keep your head comfortably lifted off of the mattress.

The foam is not the only material that helps to keep this pillow cool. The cover is made out of two different fabrics. The first is their Double Ice Fabric, this is what covers the majority of the pillow. This fabric is silky smooth and cool to the touch. It draws heat away from the body in order to keep you feeling comfortable and cool. The sides of the pillow feature a blue mesh fabric. This is extra breathable and allows air and heat to move out of the pillow in order to prevent heat retention. All together this makes for a rather comfortable and cool sleeping pillow.

Is The Bear Cooling Pillow Comfortable?

Staying cool has a lot to do with what makes the Bear Cooling Pillow comfortable. It features a breathable Loft-X Foam that lets go of heat better than other kinds of foam. It also features the double ice fabric on the cover that is cool to the touch. This is what gives this pillow that extra fresh flip side of the pillow feeling all of the time. One of the final features that keeps this pillow cool is the mesh. The mesh panels are featured in a blue color on the corners of the pillow. These are ideal for allowing air and heat to leave through these panels in order to avoid heat retention.

However, comfort is not singularly about staying cool. There are other factors that will determine whether or not a pillow will feel comfortable to you. One of the first is the loft size of a pillow. The Bear Cooling Pillow comes in at a lofty 5 inches high. This is a medium/high loft size that is going to ideally work best for side sleepers or back sleepers. We found that this loft height is a bit high for our stomach sleepers out there. The contouring feel of the foam is soft yet supportive. It has a slow response feel that is similar to a memory foam.

Care Instructions:

When shopping for a new pillow it is vital that you check the care instructions. Especially if you are someone who never wants to step foot inside of a dry cleaner. The great news here is that the Bear Cooling Pillow is rather easy to keep clean at home. The cover of this pillow features a hidden zipper on the side. This zipper allows you to fully remove the internal foam core of the pillow in order to wash the outer cover.

To wash the cover they recommend spot cleaning when at all possible. However you can machine wash on a cold cycle with gentle detergent when needed. Then tumble cry on a low heat setting, or hang dry. Avoiding heat is key here as any heat can potentially damage the cover. If something gets on the foam of the pillow they suggest spot cleaning and avoid getting any excess moisture into the pillow itself. Overall we found that as long as you are using a pillow case that you wash regularly, this is a very simple pillow to keep fresh and clean.
